“THEATER FOR YOUTH DAY” TO TAKE PLACE AT TOMMY O’S NORTHERN STARS PLAYHOUSE
Exciting new event will be fun for all ages and educational to boot!
Getting up on stage and saying a few lines can be terrifying and thrilling all at the same time, and whether one is a stalwart veteran of the stage or a novice beginner, there is no such thing as “the same old story.” At “Theater for Youth” Day, children young and old will be immersed in all things theatre. There will be games, mini-classes, hands-on activities, back-stage tours and more. Not only will they learn all about the dramatic arts, but about making friends, working with others and, most importantly, they will learn something new about themselves.
Just what exactly the participants take away from “Theater for Youth” Day will vary as much as the talent and resources that are put into it. “Our energetic resident company brings their talent and knowledge from all corners of the country. They have worked in opera, stage, TV/film, behind the scenes, education and more…” says Rory Behrens, Associate Producing/Artistic Director. “They have so much to offer the community, and relish the opportunity to nurture a budding young actor or technician.” At Northern Stars Playhouse great care is taken to make sure everyone feels like part of the team. Beginners will get their feet wet with the basics; intermediate level students will take part in group exercises and delve into improvisation. Advanced youths will get a chance to flex their leadership abilities throughout the day, and get one-on-one time with professionals in the field. For those students interested in the behind-the-scenes side of theater, there will be plenty of things to see and do as well.
“Theater for Youth” Day will take place on August 6th, 2012, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and concluding at 5:00 p.m. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. Each participant should bring a sack lunch, closed-toed shoes, and wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty.
Cost is $25 per participant and open to ages 6-17. Cash only. Parents are welcome to come and observe too! We are located on Hwy 51, just south of Hazelhurst, WI. Watch for the big white sign!
The Northern Stars Playhouse education program was founded in 2012 to instill a high standard of accomplishment, respect, and interest in the dramatic arts; and that its members in turn give back to their communities, programs, and fellow artists, the knowledge and wisdom they have gained from their experiences.
